Inter Banks Challenge Monaco ERI TROPHY

Inter Banks Challenge Monaco ERI TROPHY

20-21 June 2015
The 23rd edition of the Challenge Inter-Banques competing for the ERI Trophy attracted more than 36 bankers from the Principality, with some also coming from Switzerland, for example Banca Popolare di Sondrio.
A very popular fixture on the calendar for those working in the finance sector, this friendly regatta which is loyally supported by ERI, leader in banking software, offers a weekend of racing which this year coincided with the first anniversary of the opening of the Yacht Club de Monaco's new building.
An opportunity not only for participants to discover the facilities designed by Lord Norman Foster but also to race on the new one-design J/70 boats, generously made available by all the owners in the J/70 Monaco Class Association.
A stiff 15-knot breeze for a downwind start in the harbour, Port Hercule, guaranteed a great spectacle to honour the blessing of the exploration vessel, the M/V Yersin, attended by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and numerous public figures.
The first race on the Saturday was dominated by Barclays Bank, 2013 winner, led by former France Laser champion, Alexia Palmer who now works for the bank. The crew led the tacks round all the marks as far as the downwind finish several nautical miles away in La Mala Bay. Hard on their heels was newcomer, Corporation Financière Européenne, who let down their guard on the final run and slipped to 3rd place, having been pipped to the post by BNP Paribas who came 2nd.
The second race on Sunday, still in bright sunshine, confirmed that BNP Paribas was not there just for a walk-on part and that their second place the day before was not down to luck. Victory meant they walked away with the ERI Trophy, ahead of Barclays Bank and UBS equal on points in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Well done to UBS, 2014 title holder, who produced a magnificent downwind run to put them back in contention.
"It was a great event this year and thanks to the J/70 everyone enjoyed the sailing, with a very even playing field, evident in the fact that just two points separated 5th placed Julius Baer and CFM and Caisse d'Epargne Côte d'Azur tied on equal points in 6th. I also want to highlight the perseverance of Edmond de Rothschild Bank, who trained hard for several weeks. It is hugely satisfying to see that some really got a taste for racing and have already announced their intention to participate in the YCM Sports Section's activities" commented Race Committee President, Thierry Leret.

Final Ranking
1st BNP Paribas (3 points)
2nd Barclays Bank (6 points)
3rd UBS (6 points)
4th Corporation Financière Européenne (7 points)
5th Julius Baer (12 points)
6th CFM (13 points)
7th Caisse d'Epargne Côte d'Azur (13 points)
8th Banca Popolare di Sondrio (14 points)
9th Banque Edmond de Rothschild (16 points)
